History

The VIUcam pilot project was initiated in Spring of 2008 by Facilties Services and Campus Development and was developed together with VIU's Communications & IT Departments as a tool to give the VIU community virtually live feedback on weather, parking and other interesting activities & events on campus. Research was performed on systems used by other organizations, including municipalities & alpine resorts. The Nanaimo Campus VIUcam was officially running as of Fall 2008.

Crime Prevention September 29, 2021 - 8:46am

VIU is populated at any one time by up to 8,000+ students (Nanaimo Campus), staff, faculty and visitors. We are similar size to a small city!  Each year our Nanaimo campus incidents of crime include:

  • Theft from and of vehicles
  • Theft of computer equipment (laptops, etc.)
  • Vandalism to university and personal property
  • Criminal harassment and sexualized violence

Many of these incidents go unreported each year. This encourages criminals to continue to engage in illegal and damaging activities.
