VIU Residence has five buildings or "houses" arranged in a village-like setting called the 20 Bed Townhouses. Each building is three stories tall and features beautiful ocean and mountain views. The 20 Bed Townhouses were part of a large expansion, and construction was completed in 2003. These buildings were inspired by the Whistler Olympic Village and have a distinctive west coast feel.
Each building contains 20 bedrooms, with semi-private bathrooms that are shared between students of the same gender. Each group of two bedrooms has one double room and one single room. The double room accommodates two residents on bunk beds. Each resident has a wardrobe and a desk. The single room has a single bed, wardrobe and desk.
Every resident has access to a large common area and a large kitchen space. These areas are equipped with shared freezers, microwaves, stoves, TVs and study spaces. Each student has their locking cupboard within the kitchen, and all buildings have wireless internet access. The common area is the hub of each townhouse and provides a great space for socializing and connecting with your fellow residents.
Coin-operated laundry facilities are available in the Cedar Centre 24-hours a day. There are also quite living options available. These spaces will be filled based on availability in order of application date. All room preferences will be determined based on the number of years lived in residence and the application date.
